Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is a supervised program of exercise, lifestyle changes, education and emotional support for those who have had heart attack or bypass surgery or who have other heart problems. Programs are medically supervised and individually designed.

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a physician-referred program that focuses on optimizing physical and social performance and autonomy in patients with chronic respiratory impairment such as COPD, persistent asthma, cystic fibrosis, and many more disease processes.

The goals of this program are to reduce respiratory symptoms by increasing exercise performance, increasing the knowledge about pulmonary disease and its management. If the program is followed, the results can improve quality of life, and reduce hospitalizations.

The program consists of up to 36 one-hour sessions where patients will concentrate on diagnoses and nutrition education and aerobic activity. The sessions are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Hamilton Healthcare System Wellness Center.
